This year we are celebrating the 30th year of Pope John Paul II’s Apostolic Exhortation ”Familiaris Consortio” - The Role of the Christian Family in the Modern World. This document was the impetus for CFM to begin this family ministry - to bring families together to support and encourage one another in learning the beauty and truth of the Catholic faith and to transmit the faith to
our families and friends.

Pope John Paul the Great believed passionately that attacks on the family threatened society and jeopardized the plan of salvation. After 30 years, is this document still relevant? Pope John Paul II says that the Church has a critical duty to help, reverse the trajectory of culture, and restore the family to it’s rightful place. “At a moment of history in which the family is the object of numerous forces that seek to destroy it or in some way to deform it, and aware that the well-being of society and her own good are intimately tied to the good of the family, the Church perceives in a more urgent and compelling way her mission of proclaiming to all people the plan of God for marriage and the family, ensuring their full vitality and renewal of society and the People of God”. (FC, 3

Central to the document is the sanctity of marriage - without which, moral collapse and societal decline are inevitable. The Pope emphasizes society’s need to support marriage and its life-giving purpose: The vision of the family as a “domestic church” in which individuals serve God together, is often rejected as naive or outmoded. Foreseeing this danger, JPII insisted that “the family is the first and fundamental school of social living: as a community of love it finds in self-giving the law that guides it and makes it grow.” (FC 7)

We see all around the daily threat against marriage and the family and how society is becoming more egocentric and morally impious - and family members more alienated from one another. Familiaris Consortio remains invaluable after 30 years and JPII’s teachings continues to call us to restore our culture, by respecting God’s gifts of marriage, family and life.

It is important for all of us, especially as Catholic’s to understand this document and live in accordance with it. Join us to learn it’s importance and how we can support and protect marriage and the family.

CATHOLIC FAMILY MINISTRIES...

Our journey as Catholic Family Ministries (CFM) began with our first Catholic Family Life Conference in 1995. That was the beginning of a journey that would change our lives forever. It was through the plea of Pope John Paul II for families to “become what you are, the domestic church and the heart of the world.” We
took these words to heart and began to watch videos, listen to tapes, read
conversion stories, study apologetics and grow as a faith community.
Through the years our babies and toddlers have become our youth and young adults. They are stepping into positions of service and leadership within CFM and raising children of their own in the spirit of CFM. This Conference has
become a family life tradition - an event not to be missed, an event that summer holidays are planned around.

We have watched with amazement at the Lord’s work. We have heard tremendous conversion stories of physical, emotional and spiritual healing. We have heard of renewed faith and strength. Through it all we have experienced the cross and the victory of the cross as we watch families faithfully attend and grow in their understanding of our beautiful, good, and true, Catholic faith.

This is an event we want to share with everyone - single or married, toddlers to grandparents. The speakers are faithful and inspirational. The conference is filled with Catholic traditions and devotions. We would love to meet you there.
